Μια διαφορετική ανακοίνωση των υποψηφιοτήτων για Όσκαρ ήταν και η φετινή λόγω πανδημίας.
Οι δυο παρουσιαστές, καθισμένοι σε πολυθρόνες και σε άλλον χώρο ο ένας από τον άλλο και με «καλεσμένους» νοσηλευτές, πυροσβέστες, φοιτητές και άλλους πολίτες που προσφέρουν ο καθένας από το πόστο του στην κοινωνία.
Η ταινία “The Power of the Dog” της Τζέιν Κάμπιον, με πρωταγωνιστή τον Μπένεντικτ Κάμπερμπατς, είναι επικεφαλής των υποψηφιοτήτων για τα Οσκαρ με 12 συνολικά. Η ταινία είναι υποψήφια για τις κατηγορίες Καλύτερης Ταινίας, Σκηνοθεσίας, Α΄Ανδρικού Ρόλου, Β΄Γυναικείου Ρόλου και Β΄Ανδρικού Ρόλου.
